When will my cover start?
Cover for veterinary costs for accidents will start immediately from the start date selected when you purchase your policy, however vet fees will not be covered for any illness or disease occurring within the first 14 days of the start of the policy.
Back to topDoes my pet need a health check before my cover starts?
No. However your pet does need to be in good health. If your pet is ill we can insure it but we can't cover it against any pre-existing conditions.
Back to topCan I keep using my current vet?
Yes. You can go to whichever vet you like.
Back to topDo I have to pay an excess if I claim?
Yes. A claim excess is a small contribution towards the veterinary bill. The excesses depend on your pet type (cat, dog or specified breed dog) and age. Get a quote to find out more.
Back to topWhat is your definition of a specified breed?
Irish Wolfhound, Clumber Spaniel, Newfoundland, Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen, Rottweiler, Shar Pei, Great Dane, American Bulldog, Giant Schnauzer, Mastiff, Old English Mastiff, Bullmastiff, Neapolitian Mastiff, Scottish Deerhound, Bernese Mountain Dog, Miniature English Bull Terrier, St Bernard, Dogue de Bordeaux, English Bulldog, Bull Terrier (Miniature), Deerhound, Estrela Mountain Dog or a cross between any of the above and any other dog.
Back to topWhy have you chosen these breeds?
These breeds are higher risk to insure. Our records show that these breeds may fall ill more frequently and certain dogs often require more medicine during treatment.
Back to topWhat does third party cover protect?
If property is damaged, or someone is killed, injured or falls ill as a result of an incident involving your dog during the policy year, we will pay:
- Compensation and costs awarded against you by a court; and
- The legal cost and expenses for defending a claim against you.
We will pay up to the maximum benefit of £1 million.
Back to topDoes the age of my pet make a difference?
Once your pet is insured, we will offer cover for the rest of his or her life. But, puppies and kittens should not be taken away from their mother until they are properly weaned. For puppies, that means they must be at least 8 weeks old; kittens must be over 6 weeks old before we will start cover.
We cannot start a policy beyond a certain age. Hence, we will provide insurance for cats under 10 years old, dogs under 8 and dogs listed as specified breeds under 6 (see "What is your definition of a specified breed").
Back to topDo you offer discounts for more than one pet?

Back to topWhen will my payments be taken?
All Club Care customers that take up cover via our website will receive the first month of protection absolutely free. If you choose to pay monthly by Direct Debit or Credit Card, your account will be debited on your preferred payment day. 11 monthly collections will be made throughout the course of your first policy year. If you choose to pay yearly by Direct Debit or Credit Card, your account will be debited within 8 working days of your Cover Start Date. At the end of your period of protection we will write to you about renewing, sending you a renewal notice showing the amount we will automatically collect, unless you inform us otherwise.
Back to topDo I pay the vet and you reimburse me, or can payment be made to the vet directly?
If it is more convenient for you, we can pay claims directly to your vet. You can tell us to do this when you make your claim.
